Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) is one of Europe's largest Renaissance districts and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998. Located along the Saône River, it consists of three quarters: Saint-Jean (the heart), Saint-Paul and Saint-Georges. Dating mainly from the 15th-17th centuries, it features stunning Italian-inspired architecture, narrow cobblestone streets and over 300 hidden passageways called "traboules" – originally used by silk workers (canuts) to transport goods quickly, and later by the Resistance during WWII.
